Our Story

About Holiday Baking Bags

A grassroots community project born from a simple belief: every family deserves the chance to experience the warmth and joy of holiday baking traditions.

How It Started

History of the Holiday Baking Bags Project

The Holiday Baking Bags Project began in 2016 with a simple idea and a compassionate heart.

While a sophomore at Badin High School, KK Meyers visited a local food pantry and saw firsthand the challenges many families face during the holiday season. While food assistance programs often help provide holiday meals, KK realized that many families did not have the ingredients needed to enjoy one of the season's most cherished traditions — baking Christmas cookies together.

Determined to make a difference, she created the Holiday Baking Bags Project. The concept was simple: fill a red bag with the baking supplies needed to make holiday cookies and distribute those bags to families receiving food assistance. What started as a small community service project quickly became something much more meaningful.

Each Holiday Baking Bag provides more than flour, sugar, and baking ingredients. It offers hope, encourages family togetherness, and helps create lasting memories during a season that should be filled with warmth and joy. The red bag serves as a reminder that holiday traditions matter and that every family deserves the opportunity to celebrate them.

Since its founding in 2016, more than 2,000 Holiday Baking Bags have been distributed through the Fairfield Food Pantry and other food pantries throughout the Fairfield community. Through the generosity of donors, volunteers, community partners, and supporters, the project has continued to grow while remaining true to its original mission.

Today, the Holiday Baking Bags Project continues to bring families together through the simple tradition of holiday baking. As we look to the future, our goal remains the same as it was in 2016: to provide families facing food insecurity with not only baking supplies, but also the opportunity to create treasured holiday memories that will last for years to come.

Because every family deserves the chance to share the sweetness of the holiday season.
